AFRICA DAY

On Friday 14th March P7/6 hosted a special Africa Day for all the classes in the school and the parents. We had worked very hard in the weeks running up to this and had produced traditional folk tales, poems on African life, African themed artwork, factfiles, Powerpoint presentations and learned an African dance and 2 African songs. Mrs Gardner had set up an African tent in the hall to display all our hard work. On the day we all had our face painted then each class was invited to see our performance of the dance and the songs. Then they were taken into the tent to enjoy some of our African folk tales. Each class when then given time to look around the tent at all the work we had produced. At 11am, parents and relatives came in to see the performance, listen to the stories and poems and view the Powerpoint presentations. They also had the opportunity to enjoy Fairtrade tea, coffee and biscuits. Over the day we performed 8 times and were really tired by the end of it but we really had fun. We received some really positive feedback from children, parents and teachers in our comment book.

We collected donations from everyone who visited the tent and made £118 for Mary’s Meals.

Well done to everyone, you should be very, very proud of yourselves! The day was a huge success.

We have enjoyed writing the first draft of our African stories. We are writing them with a partner and have either chosen to write a proverb or a story with a moral. We used warm colours to make a stripy background for our art that we are doing then we had a lesson about drawing trees to make a silhouette picture.The following week we learned how to draw animals and then we drew them on black paper and we created a african picture of a sunrise.

We got our info from the Internet mostly we went on Goggle we found out lots of info because we helped each other.

We tried to make it as interesting as possible by putting all the information and funny facts. We also made the leaflets very colourful.

Morocco information and facts

Me,Erin,Elle and Craig found out info on the internet and good pictures from Google.

Now on facts – Animals – barbary lion, barbery macaque, camel, fennec are trademark animals from Morocco.

Morocco is west of the sahara desert.

Capital city is Casablanca and Rabat.Then we put all the infomation in to our leaflet and took pictures !!!

Egypt Facts

How we found out facts? – We went on the internet and went on Google mostly.

Did you kno w?- the tallest pyramid is called The Great Pyramid and the smallest pyramid is called Step pyramids of Djoser and the tallest mountain range is called Himalayas.

- The most played sports are football and soccer and the most watched sports are basketball , handball , squash and tennis .

- The time difference is 2 hours in front of us .

Once we got all our information about Egypt we put is into our leaflet and done a bit on Egyptian writing . We made our leaflets look colourful and bright so it would stand out. This is a picture of our leaflets once they were finished.

Madagascar is very important for its wildlife. There are 150,000 animals on the island that are not found anywhere else in the world. The most famous is the lemur, which is related to the monkey.

Kenya fact file!

We have been finding out lots of information and facts on Kenya. We found out that the full name is Jamhuri ya Kenya, they are 3 hours ahead of us and their language is Swahili. Then we tried our best to design good leaflets telling people all of this info and more. Here is a picture of them!

Malawi fact page

We found all of our information on the internet. We found lots of pictures on google such as maps and lakes. We fount out that Malawi is the fourth poorest country in the world. We also found out some facts such as the capital city is called Lilongwe, they are two hours ahead of us, they go to primary school for eieght years and they go to secondry for four years, they have the third largest lake in the world called Lake Nyasa and one of their modes of transport is bikes . We put all our facts together and made a leaflet.
